SHIRTPRIZE 2010 SPONSORSHIP PACKAGES
Background: Launched on a whim as a gentle parody of ArtPrize in fall 2009, ShirtPrize turned out to be a hugely popular art competition in its own right. People were invited to submit their art designs for the “cotton canvas” (ie., t-shirts) for a chance to win fame, money and t-shirts. The general public was then invited to vote on the entries to pick four finalists, who competed for more than 5,000,000 in prize money (though it was later revealed that the money was based on Cambodian currency and only was worth about $1200). Volunteer models served as “social transmitters of design” (STDs) to exhibit shirts with the artists’ designs during ArtPrize and at special events. In the end, a grand prize winner was selected by a public vote.
The cheeky humor and good-natured spirit of ShirtPrize – as well as some clever social media marketing – helped capture the imagination of more than 10,000 people who voted on the designs, as well as local media, bloggers and social media. ShirtPrize was featured on the front page of the Grand Rapids Press, FOX-17 News, RapidGrowth, WZZM-TV, WMMT-TV and other local media. The organizers of ArtPrize even had kind things to say about ShirtPrize.
ShirtPrize is back for 2010 with a new website, more prizes and a comprehensive marketing/social media approach for engaging artists, and the general public. The contest, which kicks off August 15 and runs through October 6, promises to include art and fashion events, hig
h media visibility and ongoing social media for the event and its sponsors. The organizers (REVUE Magazine, Citizenshirt, and Chris Koens Designs) are seeking sponsors to help underwrite the cost of t-shirts, events, prizes and marketing. Sponsorships are available at the following levels:
